If you are planning to give birth in Hawkesbury Public, Liverpool Public, Price of Wales Private, Royal Women's Hospital Ranwick, St George Public or Private, Kareena Private, SAN's, or Sutherland Hospital please know that there is NO fridge to store placenta. You will need to bring esky & ice packs or organise to have the placenta in a fridge within 4 hours of birth. If placenta is left unchilled for more than 4 hours it is spoiled and can not be used.

Placentas that can't be collected / delivered within 48 hours are to be placed in freezer, labelled with time and date of birth, placed in a double bag and locked in an airtight container. Placentas can be frozen for up to 12 weeks. Beyond this they can be made into powder for non-consumption use.
